Two Weak Flexes from Patron Projects

A patron's journal makes a mess of it, and a preprint review initiative is full of holes

Recently, two patron-funded journals issued press releases, both of which struck me as the vaunted “weak flex” — an attempt to brag and appear strong, while only coming off as boastful and not up to the lift.

The two initiatives attempting to show off their guns were Gates Open Research and the new eLife Preprint Review.
